A beloved Chinese-American dish featuring crispy chicken coated in a sweet and spicy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili paste (adjust to taste)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, toss the chicken pieces in cornstarch until they are well coated. Dip them into the beaten eggs.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the chicken pieces until golden brown and cooked through, then drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  3. In a separate pan, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, minced garlic, minced ginger, and chili paste over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Add the fried chicken to the sauce, tossing to coat evenly.
  5. Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying for a crispy texture. You can substitute chicken with tofu for a vegetarian version.
