A flavorful Chicken Shawarma recipe wrapped in warm pita, paired with a delicious garlic sauce and fresh veggies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pita bread or flatbreads
  • Fresh vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, onions)
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, mix the olive oil, cumin, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Coat the chicken thighs in the marinade and let them sit for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat and cook the chicken for about 5-7 minutes on each side until fully cooked. Remove from heat and let the chicken rest.
  3. Prepare the Garlic Sauce: In a separate bowl, combine mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, and salt. Mix well and set aside.
  4. Assemble Your Sandwich: Slice the chicken into strips, serve in pita bread topped with fresh vegetables, and drizzle with garlic sauce.

Notes

For more flavor, marinate the chicken overnight. You can use chicken breasts for a leaner option or Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise for a lighter sauce.
