A comfort food classic featuring crispy, golden-brown chicken marinated in creamy buttermilk for juicy, tender meat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Chicken drumsticks and thighs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: Place chicken pieces in a bowl and cover with buttermilk. Let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  2. Prepare the flour mixture: In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well.
  3. Coat the chicken: After marinating, let excess buttermilk drip off, then dredge chicken in flour mixture until well-coated.
  4. Heat the oil: In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  5. Fry the chicken: Add chicken pieces to hot oil, cooking for 10-15 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Drain and serve: Transfer fried chicken to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.

Notes

For extra crunch, double coat the chicken. Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken reaches 165°F (75°C).
