Description

A delicious Italian-American dish featuring breaded chicken breasts topped with marinara sauce and melted cheese.


Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs (preferably Italian-style)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Olive oil for frying
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for the final melt. Flatten the chicken breasts using a meat mallet for even cooking.
  2. Set up three shallow dishes: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, dried basil, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat each chicken breast first in flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip it into the egg, and coat with the breadcrumb mixture for an even layer.
  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry each breaded chicken breast for about 4-5 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  5. Spread some marinara sauce in a baking dish, place the fried chicken on top, pour the remaining sauce over, and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Notes

Consider garnishing with fresh basil for added flavor and a pop of color. Drizzle with olive oil before serving.
