Description
A mouthwatering, tender, and juicy chicken dish cooked slowly in a rich, flavorful barbecue sauce, perfect for sandwiches or rice.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, trimmed of fat
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 1/4 cup barbecue sauce (e.g., Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ)
- 1/2 cup Italian dressing (fat-free is a great option)
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar (reduce to 1/8 cup or omit for a less sweet version)
Instructions
- Prep the crockpot by spraying the inside with non-stick cooking spray.
- Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder, and place them in the crockpot.
- Mix the barbecue sauce, Italian dressing, light brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl until well combined.
- Combine the sauce mixture evenly over the chicken breasts.
- Cook on high for 150-180 minutes, or low for 300-360 minutes, checking that the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- Shred the chicken using two forks directly in the crockpot.
Notes
Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken reaches at least 165°F. You can substitute chicken breasts with skinless, boneless thighs for richer flavor.
