Description

A mouthwatering, tender, and juicy chicken dish cooked slowly in a rich, flavorful barbecue sauce, perfect for sandwiches or rice.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, trimmed of fat
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 1/4 cup barbecue sauce (e.g., Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ)
  • 1/2 cup Italian dressing (fat-free is a great option)
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar (reduce to 1/8 cup or omit for a less sweet version)

Instructions

  1. Prep the crockpot by spraying the inside with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder, and place them in the crockpot.
  3. Mix the barbecue sauce, Italian dressing, light brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl until well combined.
  4. Combine the sauce mixture evenly over the chicken breasts.
  5. Cook on high for 150-180 minutes, or low for 300-360 minutes, checking that the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  6. Shred the chicken using two forks directly in the crockpot.

Notes

Use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken reaches at least 165°F. You can substitute chicken breasts with skinless, boneless thighs for richer flavor.
