A delicious and easy recipe for Beer-Can Chicken, infusing moisture and flavor through grilling, perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken (about 4 pounds)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (12-ounce) can beer (lager or ale recommended), about half full

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, ideally around 375-400°F (190-200°C).
  2. Rinse the chicken inside and out and pat it dry thoroughly with paper towels.
  3. Combine the olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper to form a flavorful rub.
  4. Apply this spice mixture all over the chicken, ensuring maximum flavor.
  5. Open the beer can and drink or pour out about half of it.
  6. Place the chicken’s cavity over the beer can, ensuring it’s sitting upright.
  7. Position the chicken on the indirect heat zone of your grill and close the lid.
  8. Grill for 1 to 1.5 hours until a meat thermometer reads 165°F (74°C).
  9. Remove the chicken carefully from the grill, remembering the beer can will be hot.
  10. Allow the chicken to rest for about 10-15 minutes before carving.
  11. Carve and enjoy!

Notes

For extra juiciness, consider applying the spice rub a few hours or the night before grilling.
